S. S. Van Dine is a pen name used by American detective story's writer and art critic Willard Huntington Wright (15 October 1888 – 11 April 1939). He created Philo Vance, a sleuth and aesthete fictional character featured in 12 crime novels. The novels were chronicled by his friend Van Dine, that appears as a Dr. Watson figure. “The Winter Murder Case” is a novel written and published by S. S. Van Dine in 1939. This novel seems especially similar to the “B mystery” movies of the 1930s, a cross between Van Dine's usual style full of puzzles and riddles, and the film style.
