George Meredith (1828 - 1909) was a famous English novelist and poet whose career developed in conjunction with an era of great chance in English literature during the second half of the nineteenth century. The biggest recognition obtained due to his works referred to Victorian literary conventions, later to demonstrations of modern social problems. By his followers he was considered as the earliest English psychological novelists.
The Ordeal of Richard Feverel is the earliest novel by George Meredithpublished in 1859. It has been seen by some critics as the first modern novel in English literature cause it includes issues of human passions, psychological analysis and sometimes attitudes of sexuality. The main character is a Sir Austin Feverel and his wife which is running away with her new lover the poet. Moreover she leaves her husband and her child Richard with a purpose of her husband bringing up him. In his life he finds and faces with various problems and will he manage to solve them or not you will find out in the end of the story.
