Charles Montgomery Skinner was an American writer, editor, dramatic and art critic, mostly known as a collector and rewriter of North American folklore. He published collections of myths, legends, histories and oral narrative found inside the United States and across the world. The writer’s task Skinner identified in saving the folk traditions endangered by the age of America’s progress. 

 “The Nuns Of Carthage” is a short story, entered in the collection “Myth and legend of our own land”. The narration is about an old house, took place at Carthage, New York, which has been built in the colonial fashion and designed for the occupancy of some rich family. But the family died out or moved away, and for some years it remained deserted. However, during the war of 1812 the village people were excited by the appearance of new occupants…
