Thomas Crane was an American scholar and writer, mostly known as a collector and publisher of folk-tales and legends. A master of many languages, Crane translated French, Italian and Spanish works, having become one of the most popular adapters of children’s fairy tales. «The Love of the three oranges» is one of numerous Italian fairy tales collected from Italian folklore by Thomas Crane. The story follow a king and his only son who anxiously wanted to marry. And one day the prince made a huge effort by cutting his finger and painted with its blood a usual cheese and declared that he would only marry a woman as white as this cheese and as red as the blood and set out to find her.
