Arthur Michell Ransome (1884–1967) was an English writer, journalist and an agent of MI5. 'The Language Of The Birds' is a Russian fairy-tale that was collected and retold by Arthur Ransome. The story goes round a rich merchant who lives together with his wife and his son. One day the merchant was sitting near a nightingale in a cage and listening to his song. And then he wished he could understand birds' language and he made an outloud promise that he would grant a man able to teach him that a half of all his wealth. The story went on when his son Ivan went hunting and found a nest with lonely baby-birds. He pitied them and the bird promised to grant him anything he wished for.
