Earl Derr Biggers (Aug 26, 1884 – Apr 5, 1933) was an American author of plays and novels. Some of his writing, both theatrical and detective, had movie adaptations. He also worked as a journalist for The Plain Dealer prior to his fiction writing career. His most notable work is a series of detective novels featuring Officer Charlie Chan, an American with Chinese roots and a real-life prototype. The House Without a Key is a detective novel by Earl Derr Biggers. The novel is set in the beginning of XX century in Hawaii. An ex-member of Boston society, who lived in Hawaii for a couple of years, is found dead. And that tragic demise completely changes life of his nephew, who came to the islands fell victim of their charm. But sunny and merry Hawaii have the other side, that is hidden from most people.
