Barry Eric Odell Pain (Sep 28, 1864 - May 5, 1928) was an English journalist, poet and writer. Born in Cambridge, and educated at the university, he became a prominent contributor to "The Granta". He was known as a writer of parody and lightly humorous stories. The Gentleman of Title is a short story by Barry Pain, included in “Eliza”. The story revolves around Perkins, a clerk, working for Eliza’s husband. One day he decided to introduce his superiors to a friend of his, the Honorable Eugene Clerrimount. No big deal at all. But this utterly common situation would not become a story, if everything went just as planned.
