Gilbert Parker (Sir Horatio Gilbert George Parker) was a Canadian novelist and British politician. He was born at Camden East, Addington in 1862 in the family of Captain J. Parker. He wrote popular adventure and historical romances. Parker's best known work is The Seats of the Mighty (1896). It is a novel about the 17th-century conquest of Quebec. Parker traveled around Australia and the South Seas from 1885 to 1889. Then he settled in London, where he wrote his stories and novels, which are full of energetic action, vivid characterizations, and rich local colour with precision of historical detail. Sir Horatio Gilbert George Parker died in 1932.
