Enoch Arnold Bennett was a remarkable English novelist and journalist, famous for such novels as The Old Wives' Tale, The Card and the Clayhanger trilogy. Having won Tit-Bits magazine literary competition, he began working as an assistant editor in Woman periodical. After writing a successful serial, which later became The Grand Babylon Hotel and his first novel A Man from the North, Bennett walked into the editor position, but gave it up for the literary career. In 1923 his novel Riceyman Steps won James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Most of Bennett's works bore the test of time and are still immensely popular. First published in 1911, Mental Efficiency and Other Hints to Men and Women is one of the first self-help books. Although written more than a hundred years ago, this book is still full of fresh advice. The author comments on success, marriage, cult of the body and many other timeless topics.A classic example of Bennett's humorous and undeniably pleasant style, this book is a real treasure.
