Samuel Griswold Goodrich was an American publisher and author of children’s books under the pseudonym of Peter Parley. Largely self-educated he was also a bookseller and publisher at Hartford and later in Boston. In 1828 he published for 15 years an illustrated annual, the Token, to which he was a frequent contributor both in prose and verse. The Token contained some of the earliest work of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry W. Longfellow. Goodrich published Peter Parley’s Magazine (1832–44) and then merged it into his Merry’s Museum, founded in 1841 and for a time edited by Louisa May Alcott.  Lives of Celebrated Women is a popular book by Samuel Griswold Goodrich. The book contains 16 chapters, each chapter describes the life of such women as Joan of Arc, Queen Elizabeth, Queen isabella, Martha Washington, Hannah More, Madame de Stael, and Madame de Sevigne. Who are these women?  Why was the author interested in them? During the reading each of you can find something, that is similar with your personal life. Enjoy the reading...
