Ambrose Bierce was an american writer who worked in the field of humorous and horror fiction. As Bierce took part in the American Civil War it made a major effect on his perception of the world and his style of writing. Nowadays Ambrose Bierce is considered to be the master of a short story.  'John Mortonson's Funeral' is a short story that depicts the authors personal perception of death and his attitude towards the way the people usually react to a dead body. The story can be seen as a the author's criticism toward the funeral's rite and its place in our culture. The main character of this story is already dead, and all his friends and relatives have come to show him respect, although now he needs neither friends nor any signs of respect. But thta's not all… his cat has come to give him a special treat!
