The term "folklore" was first coined by William J. Thoms in 1846. The term folklore is generally used to refer to the traditional beliefs, myths, tales, and practices of a people which have beem disseminated in an informal manner -- usually via word of mouth. The term folklore may also be used to define the comparative study of folk knowledge and culture. All over the world there are extraordinary stories - stories that once upon a time were believed but now they seem like fairy tales.

Once upon a time a man was digging a peat and he heard a strange voice which called him out of the air. It commanded him to dig under a little green hill which was near to him. It also said that he should to gather up the small white stones, which he would discover beneath the ground.
