Charles Farrar Browne was an American writer, one of the brightest and most popular humorous men of 19th-century, known under his pen name Artemus Ward. Multitalented person, he profited not only from writings but also from lectures, which droll and eccentric author’s reading attracted large audiences and influenced on number of humorous writers. His literature works included tricks of language, burlesques and parodies, jokes and humor, made him the favorite author of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and important figure in the world of literature.

A humorous short story “Red Hand: A Tale of Revenge” was written in 1860 and represents the narration about Horace Blinker, who throws out the house his adopted young son, in spite of boy’s entreaty. But soon the circumstances will so arise that Horace Blinker will regret this. Amusing characters, grotesque, fractured grammar and pointed humor will be pleasant for fans of satire.
