Timothy Shay Arthur ,known as T.S. Arthur, was a popular 19th-century American author. He is most famous for his temperance novel Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There (1854). «Aunt Mary's Suggestion» is an edifying story about the relations between a man and a child. During the whole story Mr. Belknap speaks to John Thomas in an authoritative cold and cough manner. There is no respect or obedience in him. Mr. Belknap does not understand what to do with Thomas and how to get his obedience. Once an elderly lady gives Mr. Belknap a piece of good advice how he should communicate with this little boy. Does her advice help to regulate their relations or not? This story is very useful for parents who have misunderstandings with their children.
