Arthur George Morrison was an English writer and journalist known for his realistic novels and stories about working-class life in London's East End. That Brute Simmons explores the theme of family relation. This story begins with portraying an example of a good conscientious wife whose name is Mrs. Simmons. The neighbors consider that Simmons's infamous behaviour toward his wife is still matter for profound wonderment. Nevertheless, the other women have all along regarded him as a model husband, and their family is believed to be a very happy couple. Everybody knows that there are no perfect relationships, so this short story is a great example, which gives us a picture of the different problems in a family. What is the main problem of this family? Can they reach mutual understanding or not?
