Timothy Shay Arthur was a popular 19th-century American author. A Good Name is the story of two boys, Jacob Peters and Ralph Glipin. One evening the boys are walking down the street near an oyster-cellar, when one of them suddenly suggests having some oysters. His friend, nevertheless, rejects the suggestion as he does not want to go down there. Why does Ralph reject his friend's suggestion? Can this place influence their further lives? This story plunges the reader in the atmosphere of pre-Civil War America and depicts the values, beliefs, and habits of the middle-class life.
