A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court is a novel by Mark Twain, first published in 1889. This is a one of the first descriptions of time travel in the literature. The novel satirically ridicules chivalric romances about the Middle Ages. Typical Connecticut Yankee of the late XIX century receives a jolt with a crowbar on the head during the fight and loses consciousness. When he awoke, he discovers himself in the era and kingdom of King Arthur. Enterprising Yankees immediately finds a place at the king’s court as a wizard forced out the old Merlin. Using his knowledge of science, technology and history, he begins to transform British society. Yankees achieves a success before his "magical" activity causes an active opposition of the church and chivalry, and they declare war on him. Try to read this amazing story!
